RAK tourism provides innovative opportunities

The Ras Al Khaimah's tourism industry witnessed a tremendous growth of 8.7 % between 2014 and 2017. By 2018 more than 1,000,000 visitors are expected to choose Ras Al Khaimah as their holiday destination and the emirate draws closer to reaching this target. Ras Al Khaimah’s Tourism Development Authority (RAKTDA) said that over 631,000 people visited Ras Al Khaimah in the first nine months of 2017, a 9 % year-on-year increase. In the first nine months of this year, occupancy rates rose 1.3 % to reach 69 %, while length of stay went up 9 % to 3.55 days.

Most of the visitors in Ras Al Khaimah (almost 20 %) are from Germany. Various tour operators like TUI, DERTOUR and FTI offer several Ras Al Khaimah holiday packages and numerous airlines provide direct flights to Ras Al Khaimah Airport. Further top international source markets are Russia, the UK, India and Kazakhstan. Other major international gains came from the Czech Republic and Poland.

Ras Al Khaimah currently provides 40 hotels with more than 5,000 rooms, most of them are luxury 5-star premises. Around 500 new hotel keys are expected to be completed over 2017, with a similar figure to be finalized in 2018. This includes the recently opened Hilton Garden Inn and the expansions of Bin Majid Beach Resort and Cove Rotana Resort.

New hotels scheduled to open in Ras Al Khaimah include InterContinental Ras Al Khaimah Mina Al Arab Resort, due in 2019, and Anantara Mina Al Arab Ras Al Khaimah Resort, due early 2020. Other hotel brands marking their entrance in the emirate include City Max, Marriott and Sheraton Four Points.

As Ras Al Khaimah draws closer to reaching its one million visitors target by the end of 2018 and charts a path towards attracting 2.9 million visitors by 2025, the need for quality hotel rooms has never been so important. Ras Al Khaimah is providing potential investors a range of innovative opportunities to develop stand out properties across the emirate. Numerous state-of-the-art hotel projects will be showcased at AHIC, the Arabian Hotel Investment Conference which will be held in Ras Al Khaimah in April 2018.
