The end of the year usually is the time to look back and reflect. Therefore, take this last moment before the holidays to look back and be proud. 2017 has been a wonderful year with exciting projects. One of these amazing developments was the opening of the first DIFC Will Registration Office outside Dubai. Our MEO Competence Team successfully supported our client to sign the very first DIFC Will in Ras Al Khaimah. Another great project was the Women SME Conference where we hold a dynamic speech about business opportunities in Ras Al Khaimah. Further energetic events in 2017 have been the German Spring Break, the MEO Speed Networking and several great DACH-Stammtische, the last one in December.
The end of the year is not only a time to look back, but also a time to look forward and to make plans for the year ahead. 2018 holds exciting attractions in Ras Al Khaimah. From the thrilling world’s longest zipline to luxury cruise ships, here are 5 exciting attractions in RAK we are looking forward to in 2018:
1. VAT is around the corner
First things first. VAT will be implemented in January 2018 with 5 % on several goods and services. All businesses with an annual turnover of 375,000 AED must register for VAT. A voluntarily registration is possible if the annual turnover exceeds 187,500 AED. This also applies for free zone companies registered in Ras Al Khaimah. Nevertheless, VAT will also provide great opportunities for new businesses in sectors like accounting, VAT consulting, software development, data storage etc.
2. The world’s longest zipline in RAK
The focus of Ras Al Khaimah’s recent activities has really been the Jebel Jais mountain. In 2017 there have been activities on Jebel Jais like the Via Ferrata rock climbing experience or the Vivaldianno, a breath-taking classical concert. 2018 will also hold some amazing mountain activities. One of them will be the opening of the world’s longest zipline in January 2018. While the exact length of the new zip-line is kept secret until its opening, we are quite sure that the new Jebel Jais zip-line is set to break the current Guinness world record of the longest zip-line with 2,200 meters held by “The Monster” in Puerto Rico.
3. First outdoor dog park in Ras Al Khaimah
The first outdoor dog park in the UAE will open in Ras Al Khaimah. The dog park will be called Pawsome Park and open its doors to residents and their furry friends in February 2018. Built by the government of Ras Al Khaimah, the park will be located at RAK Animal Welfare Centre (RAKAWC) and provide an area for pet related activities, like pet birthday parties, pet shows, trainings and more.
4. Ras Al Khaimah Cruise Tourism Strategy
Cruise tourism will continue to play a key role in the coming years. Over the past five years, cruise tourism within the Arabian Gulf has experienced explosive growth. This re-energized focus on cruise tourism has also made its way to Ras Al Khaimah, where RAK Port is upgrading its existing passenger terminal. RAK Port has already completed some major works and refurbishments and will be capable of handling luxury cruise ships with a length up to 214meter, starting from February 2018.
5. Arabian Hotel Investment Conference in RAK
As Ras Al Khaimah draws closer to reaching its 1 million visitors target by the end of 2018. Around 500 new hotel keys have been delivered in 2017. This includes the recently opened Hilton Garden Inn and the expansions of Bin Majid Beach Resort and Cove Rotana Resort. Further new hotels and resorts being finalized during the next years are InterContinental Ras Al Khaimah Mina Al Arab Resort, Anantara Mina Al Arab Ras Al Khaimah Resort, City Max, Marriott and Sheraton Four Points. Numerous state-of-the-art hotel projects will be showcased at AHIC, the Arabian Hotel Investment Conference, which will be held in Ras Al Khaimah in April 2018.
